Tough Guise: Violence, Media & The Crisis in Masculinity

with Ed. M, Ph.D Jackson Katz

Same for mass shootings which are almost entirely done by white males.

If it was done by, literally, ANYONE ELSE of any other race or gender, I can’t even IMAGINE the shit that would be said by people.

I read somewhere, someone had this theory that the reason shootings are mainly committed by white males is because when women or poc feel alienated, depressed, etc, we are trained to keep it to ourselves, whereas white men are raised with a sense of entitlement that allows them to make their own problems everyone’s problem.

I wonder if it is true for shooting or for road rage or both or neither.

Matriarchical FOX News-esque report…

"Men are too emotional. The slightest thing goes wrong and they scream and yell irrationally, just nag nag nag all day. They can’t even get from point A to point B without getting out of their car and halting traffic for miles to come. Workers are late, businesses become less efficient, and the economy has plummeted. THANKS, MEN."

Reading this now.  My therapist recommended it & it is a very helpful, quick read.  It helps with those of us who have issues with parental guilt & manipulation.  It’s purpose is to help you regain your self worth & develop new ways to interact.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. It literally changed my life.
Anyone who thinks they may have been abused in any way by a parent or caregiver should read this book.

I wish there were a way to download this book. I want it, but I don’t want my parents to find it. :/

“Bad history has consequences. I’m not afraid we will forget AIDS; I am afraid we will remember it and it will mean nothing. If we cannot face the root issue — that we let people die because we did not like them — AIDS will become a blip on our moral radar, and this cycle will repeat every time we connect an unpopular group with something that scares us.”How to Whitewash a Plague (via melissa)

Haunted Play House At The MoCA In Tokyo by Torafu Architects via Yatzer

This ‘Haunted House’ is not like any you will have seen before and comes in the form of a spooky gallery of paintings that at first seem ordinary but soon turn out to have some hidden surprises in store. The concept behind Torafu Architects’ ‘Haunted Play House’ is to challenge perspectives and norms where rules are broken as children are actually encouraged to run, shout and touch – activities usually forbidden in a gallery or a museum.

Okay so.

Everyone’s seen this Orson Welles applauding gif and judging on where people post it, the general consensus is he’s clapping so heavily and purposefully because he’s really impressed or moved or something, but- without spoiling the movie- these few seconds were such a psychologically intense and involved part of of “Citizen Kane” both on the part of the characters and the audience, that it completely terrified me and made me shiver.
